We arrived as a family of six during Golden Week, parked a tall campervan nearby, and worked out how to eat well in a loud, packed food hall without losing anyone. This is what actually happened, not a list of stalls.

We parked in an uncovered lot a short walk from the market. It fit our van without trouble. The rate was ¥100 per 30 minutes, which is not cheap if you stay long, but the location is close enough that you are not paying for a shuttle or a long walk with tired kids.

Can you find a table for six during Golden Week?
Hirome Market has around 60 food stalls inside one building, arranged like a food court with shared seating spread across several sections rather than assigned to any one stall. That shared layout is what saves you. On a busy holiday afternoon, my wife and I split up and called across the hall, scanning for open seats.
A group of four women at a large table noticed us hesitating and offered their spot before they had even finished their drinks. Nobody asked us to leave. They noticed a family with four kids needed room and made the offer themselves.
That is the pattern here. People move on, tables turn over, and strangers pay attention to who needs a seat. If you stand still and look lost, someone usually helps. If you hang back quietly, you wait longer.

What should you order at Myojinmaru?
Katsuo tataki, seared bonito, is the dish Kochi is known for, and Myojinmaru is one of the stalls inside Hirome Market that serves it. Order the salted version, not the ponzu. It was the best katsuo tataki we have had anywhere in Japan. The kids ate more of it than they normally eat of anything.

Is Hirome Market manageable with kids?
It is loud. It is crowded, especially during Golden Week. But it did not feel unmanageable. The open seating means kids can move between chairs without anyone minding, and nobody expects quiet. We stayed about an hour, ate, and left while the kids still had energy for the walk back to the van.
Who should go, and who should skip it
Go if you want one real Kochi meal, katsuo tataki eaten the way locals eat it, and you do not mind standing in a crowd for a few minutes while you find seats. Go if you are driving a van and want parking within walking distance rather than a long detour. Skip it if you need a quiet meal or a guaranteed table the moment you arrive, especially during Golden Week. We drove on to the overnight parking spot in central Kochi that night, slept in the van, and headed for Kagawa the next morning. An hour at Hirome Market was enough to eat well and move on.
