Anpanman Museum Kochi: Getting In With No Reservation on Golden Week

Guides 2026.07.27 3 min read NoWa

If you are heading to the Anpanman Museum in Kochi during a busy period without a reservation, here is what actually happens at the counter.

We didn’t book ahead. This is what we found when we showed up anyway, during Golden Week, and asked.

Do you need a reservation, or can you just show up

The official position is that a time-specified reservation is recommended during peak periods, and some sources describe it as required. In practice, we walked up to the counter with no booking at all and asked about same-day tickets. They had capacity and let us in. We arrived around 1:40 PM.

This is not a guarantee. It means the museum does release same-day tickets when there is room, even during one of the busiest weeks of the year. If you are travelling with kids and your schedule is loose, it is worth asking in person before you assume you are shut out. If your dates are fixed and you cannot afford to be turned away, book ahead online.

INFO ・ Reservations

  • Advance booking: recommended, sometimes described as required, especially at peak times and popular time slots
  • Same-day tickets: possible depending on capacity, confirmed by asking at the counter
  • Hours: 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, last entry 4:30 PM (per Visit Kochi Japan and Shikoku Tourism)

How long do you actually need

We spent about an hour inside. That was enough for our kids to do the full stamp rally without rushing. If you want to look closely at the original drawings and dioramas too, budget longer. An hour is a fair minimum, not a leisurely visit.

What the kids actually did

The main activity for our kids was the stamp rally. Our third child took it seriously, checking every corner of the museum for the next station. The stamps themselves are embossed, which was new to them and turned out to be more interesting to them than we expected.

Next to the museum is a roadside station with a free outdoor play area. It has a large Dadandan statue. For younger kids who are not going to sit still for original artwork and dioramas, this outdoor area might be enough on its own, and it costs nothing.

INFO ・ What to do with different ages

  • Older kids who can read and follow a rally: the embossed stamp rally inside the museum
  • Younger kids: the free outdoor play area and Dadandan statue at the adjacent roadside station, no ticket needed
  • Time spent by NoWa: about 1 hour inside

Who this is for

This suits families who want to gamble on a same-day ticket during a busy period rather than lock in a time slot months out. It also suits anyone travelling with a mix of ages, since the free outdoor area gives younger kids something to do even if you decide the paid museum is not worth the wait. If your trip depends on getting in at an exact time, book ahead instead of relying on same-day availability. If you only have small children and no interest in Yanase Takashi’s original work, the free play area next door may be all you need, and you can skip the museum entirely.
